 | Ninth Grove Fuel Cell Symposium | The Ninth Grove Fuel Cell Symposium is the largest fuel cells event in Europe. Taking place at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in Westminster, London, this major conference and exhibition is attracting speakers and exhibitors from around the globe. Real progress in the development of fuel cell industries, and the infrastructure to support them, is leading to viable fuel cell power generation for both mobile and stationary applications across a wide range of sectors. Conference sessions will reflect this progress, covering advances in each of the following areas: * Commercial and industrial applications for stationary fuel cells * Portable applications and consumer electronics * Residential combined heat and power * Road vehicles and auxiliary power units. Additional sessions will review available fuels and the factors promoting further commercialisation of the technology. The final conference programme will be available shortly. A large exhibition area with leading suppliers of fuel cell products and services offering both static and 'live' fuel cell demonstration areas will feature alongside the conference. For further information for editors including photo links to speakers and exhibitors for articles on fuel cell technology and commercialisation and for press passes please contact Karen Purvis at the Grove Symposium Press Office on Tel: +44 (0) 1993 831859 Email: bluezulu@dial.pipex.com For all enquiries concerning the conference contact Gill Heaton on +44 (0) 1865 373625 or at grovefuelcell@elsevier.com For all enquiries concerning the Exhibition contact Pam Chattin on +44 (0) 1322 663006 or at pamchattin@aol.com

 | Matchmaking Event “Shift into HY gear!” | The Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Eureka Network will organise a “match-making” event on Hydrogen technology and fuel cells in Arnhem, the Netherlands. This event is called “Shift into HY gear!” and is an opportunity to meet European companies and discuss possibilities for co-operation. The Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs will provide some project grants. Registration may be submitted until 15 April. The registered parties will be invited to indicate who they would like to meet. The event will offer three plenary sessions and 12 one-to-one targeted meetings or “match-making” sessions. For more information see: http://www.eureka-chair.nl/eur/hydrogen.asp Energy specialisms of European countries have evolved from their existing infrastructure, industrial activities and natural resources. Successful implementation of hydrogen technology requires close international cooperation between companies and research institutes. EUREKA can assist in finding international partners to benefit from collaboration in terms of cost-sharing and access to new know-how and markets. The European Commission has set challenging goals for hydrogen use in various parts of society for the near and long term. Recent studies show an increase in R&D expenditure in Europe as a whole. In the Netherlands, the R&D budget is estimated to be at least EUR 40 million per year (2003).
