Areas of Interest:              

The Welsh School of Architecture has been researching into the design of buildings and their systems, with particular emphasis on energy use in buildings, for over 40 years. Its current interest in this area is in the integration of Fuel Cells and other Cogeneration Systems with Buildings.

 

Activity and Expertise:      

The Welsh School of Architecture has research expertise ranging from detailed studies of building services performance in use, through to extensive computer modelling capabilities at services, building and region level. It also offers award winning expertise in building design and consulting services, including environmental and historical conservation expertise.

 

It is currently participating in IEA Energy Conservation in Buildings and Community Systems Programme Annex 42: FC and COGEN-SIM - The Simulation of Building-Integrated Fuel Cells and other Cogeneration Systems.

 

Credentials:

Currently the top-ranked School of Architecture for Research in the UK, the Welsh School of Architecture has a long and successful track-record of attracting both academic and industrial funding for its research. Industrial sponsors include Toshiba Carrier UK, National Grid Transco, the Building Research Establishment and PBPower. Publications include numerous academic papers as well as studies and outputs for Action Energy, including unique CHP sizing software suitable for new build in certain UK sectors.

 

Fuel cell and/or Hydrogen courses and modules offered:

Fuel cells and hydrogen are considered as an aspect of the MSc in the Environmental Design of Buildings.
